I think everyone(if people still bother checking this blog) must be pretty sick of the 'it's been so long since I've blogged and my poor blog is crying in a corner with cobwebs everywhere' starting 'paragraph' that's been gracing nearly all of my latest posts. Despite trying not to do it, I couldn't. :P Anyway... Uni orientation started on mon. I didn't end up going to melb despite getting their scholarship, even though the scholarship included school fees and $10k a yr. Unfortunately, it didn't include boarding, which costs about $20k a yr excluding the flying up and down. So it was too expensive, and I didn't go. I'm going to do med at UWA (fyi, it's the university of western australia. The best one in perth, but still not that fantastic. Lol. Don't think a lot of you know it). Still rather apprehensive about doing med, but I'll see how things go. Seriously, I didn't think I'd get in after my interview. The interview was on the 20th of jan, although it was supposed to have been the 12th of Dec. Unfortunately, I was sick the whole week of my interview, and couldn't go. So it got postponed till Obama's inauguration. Random, but an interesting trivia. HAHA. Some questions were really really out of left-field. One of the last questions was 'what do you do to be a global citizen' and me, being really baffled, replied 'read the papers???' and my interviewers burst out laughing. And then prompted me if I had anything else to add, and I said no. HAHAHA. And my interview was incredibly short compared to some others. I think it was only 20mins, while the average was 30mins. Oh well. So given how bad I thought it went, I didn't think I'd get in and was quite happy settling for vet. But I surprisingly got in! LOL. Besides that, I had a major quarrel with my mum about dishes that were not done. That was after a dinner 2 years ago. She started making a huge fuss about it on the day I was about to go back to school to sell my uniform, and it was 7.30am and I was annoyed that she had to make such a fuss about something that happened so long ago, and something so trivial. So I quarrelled with her. Didn't talk to her till last Wednesday. I quarrelled with her on the 30th of Jan I think. Last Wednesday was the awards ceremony for the whole state's academic awards. Shook hands with the minister of education. Quite lame... The place had no aircon and it was 40 degrees. Everyone was complaining. HAHA. The food was good though. Then uni orientation started yesterday! Some of the people were complete assholes. There was this event called 'o-quest' that, quite simply, was a tour around the uni, crudely based on the amazing race but wasn't quite a race, nor quite as fun (imho). It just made everyone hot and sweaty and pissed off. I suppose the amazing race does that too. Because so many mentors for med/dentistry/health science/podiatry turned up, it ended up being 2 newbies to a mentor. So much for teamwork. My mentor decided to go around with another 2 mentors, and unfortunately, 1 of the other mentors had 2 people from my old school. Who were complete assholes and didn't even talk to me, despite me saying hi to them. I just talked to other people. The person I was paired up with seemed to enjoy sucking up to them, even though the 2 of them were clearly in their little, rainbow-coloured bubble. The other 2 people were very nice! So I guess it wasn't too bad, except they aren't doing med (both are doing health science) while the 2 assholes are. Oh well. Since there was a 5 hr break between the o-quest and the event at night, keisha and I decided to go into the city to get lunch and buy a birthday present for her friend. Ended up buying an itunes gift card. Lol. I was complaining to Keisha about the snobbish, arrogant fart heads from our old school in med and just in general, and Keisha was saying that some people also ignored her! How polite. At least their motto isn't the same as nanyang's (raising students to be *respected members of society*). If it were, the school would have failed miserably (incidentally, the school's motto is 'opportunities for life'). Make of it what you want to. Then I went back to uni to explore the new library while waiting. Then walked over to the other med building. Which was about 10mins walk away. Sigh. And I was still early despite thinking I was 15mins late! Could have walked slower. Bah. So I sat sweating, panting and thirsty waiting for other people to arrive. Turns out I waited at the wrong place. HAHA. Got a free bun and sausage, and met a new friend who's really nice! Her dad's one of the lecturers. Lol. The mentor (who's just an older student) we were assigned was also her friend, so that was quite a coincidence. HAHA. She was very nice too. Chatted for about an hour, then went out for dinner with dad and went home. Overall, I suppose there are nice people in med, but there are quite a few arrogant prickheads too. Just because they think they're 'oh-so-smart' to get into med. But hello, there're so many other people who got in too, and many of them are probably smarter than you! What idiots. One of them was from my old old school (uh... The one I went to after moving from sg). She was such a pain in the butt. Just because she went on this camp (oh, there was a camp for people doing the health sciency courses), she pretended she knew everyone. The instructor was asking us to pair up with someone we didn't know, and she went around shouting that she already knew everyone and asking people who didn't know her to put up their hand so she could pair up with them. Firstly, it's impossible she knew everyone because even I didn't go on the camp (found out too late, since I only got my notification in the 2nd round offers as my interview was after the first round). And I wouldn't have gone anyway. Too much drinking and partying... Not my thing. Secondly, I would have thought she was such a prick and wouldn't have paired up with her anyway. I think most people thought that way, because no one responded to her offer and she had to end up just pulling a guy from the throng. The guy didn't look too pleased, imho. LOL. Hopefully I get to meet a few nice people, although things don't look very optimistic atm. The nice people, as I was telling Keisha and my ahmah, didn't seem to have gotten into med (like Keisha). Keisha was saying that maybe the interviewers only admitted the snobbish, arrogant pinheads like those I met. Oh, of course all of them except for me :P. And I suppose by saying that, I'm being snobbish and arrogant too. HAHA. 9:09 PM
