Blowing in the wind Bob Dylan How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man? Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly Before they're forever banned? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind. How many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky? Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry? Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows That too many people have died? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind. How many years can a mountain exist Before it's washed to the sea? Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist Before they're allowed to be free? Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head, Pretending he just doesn't see? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind. ~ That's been playing in my head since I read about the guy who shot 32 people at the Virginia University. Some part of me actually sympathises with him. Let me explain before you try to shove pocupines up my rearend. Firstly, understand his context. His family emigrated to America in search of a better life. They were poor, ran a tiny shop, and probably struggled through and lived their days from hand to mouth. He goes to school, white snobs laugh at him for his colour, maybe his unglamorous clothes and unfashionable hairdo. He tries to say he can't help it, but no one cares. The cultural differences are too vast for them to even look over the superficial matters. Well, he thinks, that's what a first class education in the supposed best country creates; little Frankensteins. He dreams of death, ending all the suffering and torment he and his friends suffer. But he can't. Not yet. Why am I even trying to write a STORY on his 'thoughts'?! I'm strange. Haha. So yeah... I sympathise with him. At least it's not too bad in 2007 Aussieland, where the Asian predecessors have proven that we Asians are actually intelligent and not to be messed around with. And my parents actually came here with more than a few suitcases of clothes and a pocketful of money. Not that we came here in search of a better education *colossal snort*. Quite sad. The only part that infuriates me is how he likens himself to a martyr, to Jesus Christ. The pure audacity of doing that... Jesus said to love thy enemies as thy neighbour. He did none of that. He KILLED 32 PEOPLE. I pity his neighbour. I actually sympathise with him more than the 32 victims though. Maybe it's because I feel that I can see myself in him. *shrugs* Don't worry, I'm not going to randomly pick 32 of my school mates that I hate and shoot them when school reopens. I'm not that crazy. Yet. Speaking of school, it reopens next Thurs. And I haven't even vaguely gotten past the introduction of my physics assignment on how refrigerators work (sh*t, they just WORK OK. Must be cosmic powers...). Oh, thanks Zeena for the idea! At least I've more or less done my introductory calculus assignment (though I need some help with a few ques... *looks around*), and the geom & trig one isn't due till a month's time (and I've engaged the help of a friend from the previous school, though he's away on hols). Lit? Finished Wuthering Heights, so I'm considering it done for the moment. History... Reading the textbook counts right? I'm worried about chem. Haven't even started revision, and limiting reagents is quite worrying... Okok, shall stop ranting. 10:27 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 I hate stereotypes because they disadvantage me. Because I'm a woman. Because my brother's supposedly a guy. As such, I'm expected to cook his meals and wash up after that. Kiss my rearend. He scorns at the little cooking I can do. Fine, why won't he do it then? I don't mind cooking, but I hate the washing. Fine, why won't he wash and I cook? It's because I HAVE to do it. Because I'm a woman. F*ck that. I'm so tempted to put a whole string of vulgarities and start a tirade against male chauvinist pigs, but I shan't. It is not worth it when nothing will come out of it anyway. So I have to do the cooking and washing when my brother just lazes on his sorry behind and waits to be spoonfed while he's watching Band of Brothers. Well, he can get his wife (who ever is so unfortunate to get him) to do that in future. For now, he can starve to death for all I care, because I have my assignments to do while he's just watching movies. It's a wonder why there've been so many feminist movements. But with the majority of our pathetic society being males (a reason for women to jump off buildings in exasperation), it's quite a wonder how any of them have had the intelligence to see it from women's perspectives. And back to lunch: I don't care. I shall be incredibly selfish because I had a late breakfast, and won't care if he should starve to death or raze the house down attempting to cook something. It's time for him to GROW UP. 2:21 PM Thursday, April 12, 2007 Well, reports arrived today. It wasn't as bad as I expected... In fact, it was pretty good. All subject teachers said under behaviour and completion of work that I was cooperative and attentive, and that I did my homework *cough*. Progress? All said I was progressing well, except (with disappointment), lit. The lit teacher said I was making SATISFACTORY progress. To make things worse, all teachers were quite divided on my level of participation, which borders on non-existent. 3 of them (intro calculus, chem, physics) said I participated ACTIVELY (they must be kind of deaf/blind, but I guess the former 2 teachers are my favourite, and the latter, I keep correcting), 2 said usually (geom & trig and hist, which don't really have much of a participation aspect to them) and the last, lit, said I did so with PROMPTING (I must say is the most accurate). So yes, it wasn't too bad. However, the worse was yet to come. Attached to the report was a MEET THE PARENTS EVENING FORM. *faints* Thank God I had time to read through the stuff before my parents did (mail interception :)). So my mum kind of left the teachers-to-meet part to me, and I chose the following: hist, chem, intro calc and geom & trig. Decided to leave lit out as the teacher doesn't even know my NAME. I wonder how she even PROMPTS me to participate. Also decided to leave physics out as we're getting a new teacher, and I'd be glad if he would remember my name in the span of 3 weeks. Actually, 2. I'm kind of happy I don't exactly have to worry about the stupid report anymore. My dog stayed home with me today :). I must admit I'm not much of a good companion for her, as she appeared to be really bored and more or less slept through the whole day except when I took her for walks. Kind of sad... It'll be the same tomorrow, and Saturday too. I wonder how she'll be able to tolerate it. Kind of tired. 10:05 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2007 This is the story of a girl who thought about death nearly every waking moment of her life: her death, her ailing grandmother's death, the death of her beloved dog who suffered from heart murmur. One day, she looked across the busy road and saw a beautiful carriage; gold wiring snaking around the beige 'pumpkin', two fine white horses before it, the driver invisible. She walked across the road and entered the carriage, never to be seen again. ~ Random 'thought'. Kind of reflects my own, I guess. My granny's been pretty sick, complaining about dizzy spells and unwillingness of her body to exercise (much like mine, I guess). My dog, dear little Maisy, was diagnosed to have 2nd stage heart murmur (6th stage is when she enters pet heaven). She was quite sick today, possibly from a chill/mild fever from the sudden drop in temperature last night. It's been a long while since I've blogged, and well, I should do more of it before school reopens. In about 10 weeks time, I shall be stuck in a hall writing essays and drawing mathematical diagrams for about 2 hours. As such, it shall be now, when I'm having my holidays, that I shall blog. Not when I'm thinking about trigonometry and molar equations. Speaking of which, term reports are coming to the mailboxes soon, which quite worries me. I have this vague suspicion that some of my teachers will not fail to mention the anti-socialist behaviour I display during some classes like Literature, where no one bothers to see if I'm there even if I'm dancing the can-can in a porky pig costume. I regret to admit that I'm holding back relevant information, which I shall now release, on the annoyed glares of the readers. Well, it is my fault too. Not many people understand my kind of humour, which sadly, hinges on sarcasm, and I must admit that several of my peers have gotten crossed at me and even pointed out that it isn't funny to 'assert' that others do not like them, even in a JOKE. Wit is seen as folly in the eyes of So yes, I must admit I'm not the most likeable and popular person in the school, as many of you might already have inferred. However, it does put through my seive who my friends are, not least to say who the acquaintances are. Many only speak to me on the eve of tests, and I'm sure you will be able to tell on which side of the seive those end up in. I must too admit that I have gained the respect of several teachers. Rather, all except perhaps the lit one, which is certainly ironic. Let me explain. There are a few rather domineering people in my class who reckon the world belongs to them. Unfortunately, these oblivant people do not know that it doesn't. These people obviously do not bother whether others wish to offer their views or not, insisting on butting in midway through their sentences. Wouldn't you agree this is very put-offing? And these people glare at whoever attempts to argue against their views, staring them down till the other feels like a rotten banana in the eyes of cinderella at the ball. Sad, I must admit. I might be wrong about the lit teacher. After all, she was pretty impressed when I was the only person who knew who Ray Bradbury was. But I must admit I gave her the wrong answer. Bradbury did NOT write science fiction. He, in his own view, writes fantasy stories. However, in the eyes of the general literary public, he writes science fiction. Therefore, if I were to consider it from his point of view, I would be dreadfully wrong, as many others would be. And she did say that my first essay (in the school, of course. It definitely wasn't my first) showed promise, and liked my conclusion (which was pretty bold). The rest of the teachers are impressed with how I can sit through the lesson pretending to listen to them, and do my work faster than almost the whole class, and achieve pretty good grades. All subjects are above 72, which is a huge sigh of relief for me, given how it's the first term and I'm settling in, yada yada. That means that they're all As, which is a good sign, and why the teachers are all very IMPRESSED, going to the extent of actually bothering with my OPINION in class. Why am I writing in this snobbish 'English-y' tone? I have NO IDEA AT ALL. Anyway, I shall post pictures of my dog sometime tomorrow or something. She was kind of sick just now, but thank God she's fine now. She got a shirt today, and is getting her jacket tomorrow :). Hols, now that they're here, are terribly boring. I shall make it a point to study starting next week such that I won't have to rush when school starts. 10:56 PM Friday, April 06, 2007 Pam, yes, I got a dog :). I should post the pics I took soon, but I haven't had the time to do so :(. My dog's been quite naughty. When we went to church yesterday night, she tried eating my laksa (thank God the sauce was in the other container), and I think she realised that taupok doesn't taste too nice. And she peed in my mum's room. WAHAHAHA. My mum admitted it was her fault as she forgot to shut the door. Anyway, IT'S THE HOLS :). FOR THREE WEEKS. But I have like 5 assignments (one for every subject except chem), and a chem test in week 2 of term 2 (week 1 only has 2 days though). Gah. Hols aren't hols anymore :(. Piano lessons have started, and I miss my previous teacher :(. The current teacher is good, but it's just the varying teaching styles. And I reckon this current teacher gives too little hw. In a way, it's good, because I don't actually have to do any practice at all. But well... I want to get my grade 8 by the end of the yr. AND JIAYING, I'M DOING A CHOPIN NOCTURNE FOR MY C PIECE :P. It's one of the alternative pieces, and she's letting me to it :). Muahahahahha. Congrats to CO, btw. Nice to hear that your efforts paid off well. Lunch, then church. 1:12 PM
