I'm thoroughly exhausted. Yesterday, I had to host some China exchange programme kids with some other people. It was fine, except that I only had a biscuit for recess and they got free lunch from the canteen (not to mention a bottle of juice), and they were doing a home econs class before that. The home ecs teacher stuffed them full of food, then gave the extra biscuits to us. How thoughtful. Got home at 11pm last night after the opera Nabucco. It was fantastic, but really, I was way too exhausted to appreciate it fully. We got the crappiest seats anyone could have had (right at the top and at the bacl), but we got discounts off them, though they were in no way cheap (fine, cheap for an internationally-acclaimed operan, but expensive for us poor church mice). So we were talking about throwing some stuff down to the lower floor, then pointing at our music director. Wonder what would happen... Anyway, during the break, we went down to the orchestral pit to look at what instruments were being used. Amazingly, all the old men and women were in those hell expensive $250 seats. We stayed there till some of them got kinda pissed off and started glaring at us, so we left before they started throwing their walking sticks at us. I couldn't understand a single word of the opera. The subtitles (or according to the typo in the programme, 'surtitles') were so far away that our music director/my MEP teacher had to use a bloody pair of BINNOCULARS to look at them. What a pity... I should have dragged along my friend's star-gazing ones. It was still good though. I finally understand why body language and the synopsis to an opera's useful. Today was crap. I felt like sleeping through everything, and nearly died of a heart attack when my History teacher was yelling (draw your conclusions as to at what). Had my piano lesson early in the morning, and my teacher was kind of pissed off, but forgave me when I told her about my terribly exhausting day yesterday. Still, she was inevitably pissed off. I skived off my English in-class essay as my teacher forgot that I had to take mine today. So I get another 3 more days to fret about it:). Rest of the day was rather insignificant, especially the rushing through of Science homework during recess. My piano teacher was rather surprised when she saw me on the couch outside the music suites rushing through my homework (for some odd reason, she thinks I'm intelligent and dilligent, which I am NOT. Maybe not dilligent, since she knows I don't practise. She's been threatening to stalk me to sit in on my practise). My MEP teacher was surprised too. Weird people, but aren't most musicians weird? Anyway, Mrs Fursa's ringtone is Mozart's G minor symphony. I had to try so hard to suppress my sniggers while she was jabbering away in Russian. She said that her bath heater at home broke down (in English to me, of course). That's about it. I've got that Maths thingy tomorrow. Damn... Maybe I should just skive off. 6:17 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2006 Yanne: You haven't been online much, but neither have I. Hope you're alright (really, no one in NY is, with the mountainous loads of homework), and thanks! Karene: Aww... You poor, poor thing... *pat, pat* Hope you survive till the hols. *wicked snicker* We had an excursion to a beach yesterday. No, not CIP aka work experience to be garbage collectors, but for Geography. My 'geographical' sketches turned out to be more like blobs of black lines artistically marked by pen ink smudges (it was raining, and the waves were especially choppy, resulting in loads of sea spray). My rain coat was kind of coated with salt at the end of the day... Anyway, the trip was alright: except that we stayed in the bus for most of the time, were stuck in the rain when we went out, nearly got thrown into the ocean by our irritated teachers, and walked up and down so many hills. I would have preferred being with a monkey on steroids (let's not start on the teachers...). Today was alright I guess. We were listening to 'Romeo and Juliet' by Tchaikovsky in music. The atmosphere was fantastic until it got all quiet and some random crow started cawing outside. The crows in the school are so bloody irritating. My history teacher used to take his metre ruler out to a tree where there was a 'regular' crow there every history lesson to attempt to shoo it away by hitting the tree trunk until we saw it broken in its ruined glory at the foot of the tree. Rest of the day was too boring to be mentioned. I slept through most of it anyway. I'm missing more lessons tomorrow! Being some translator to some China exchange students... I reckon the people would do better reading their body language than listening to my rabid translations. My Mandarin isn't all that fantastic, as you guys know... So that means that I might have my English essay test tomorrow (postponed from today because I wasn't in class yesterday: I could have done it today actually), or Tuesday as I can't change my music lesson on Friday (it's during English, but Mrs Fursa would kill me if I tried to change it with only a day's notice). Then I've got a Geography test on Friday (on the excursion). And I'm going for that opera thingy tomorrow. Great, it ends at 11+ in the night. Oh, and Sars, Happy early birthday because I probably won't have enough life in me to wish you that tomorrow night. 8:34 PM Sunday, August 20, 2006 I really think that I am destined to be a teacher. Gasp all you want. My piano teacher asked me out of the blue on Friday if I wanted to be a piano teacher, and offered to help me if I wanted to. I muttered under my breath that I'd kill every one of my students, and she asked me why. I briefly told her about my phobia of young kids, and she said that some would drive her nuts, but some were exceptionally good (yeah right). Then she asked me if I wanted kids, and I gave a rather loud, obvious NO. How strange. Something more strange (if possible) would be that Ng asked me the same thing last year, and I gave her almost exactly the same answers. I do not want kids. I will not imagine myself chasing after little pesky things and wiping up their drool and dribble. I do not want to commit murder, and be locked up in jail for the rest of my life. Anyway, I told my piano teacher about the new kid, and she asked what nationality he was. So I said that he was in Holland for 2 years, but sounds Singaporean. Then she asked what nationality most Singaporeans are, and I said Chinese, but the main language is English. And she asked what was the real language, so I said Malay, and gave a brief History of Singapore as a fishing village (Ms Koh, thank me). The most astounding thing: What's Malay, asked my piano teacher. I was stumped. Malay? Malay is a Malay is a Malay. What else is there to it? Ok fine, it's a kind of people and a language. Realising my silence to be rather unusual, she proceeded to ask how Malaysia is related to Singapore, and I said they were separated by a Causeway (trying to skirt on non-racial remarks). I then said that Malay was kind of like Indonesian, as that's the closest thing I could get to. Good Lord... So we spent the whole of piano lesson talking more than playing, and when her next student came in, we started laughing. The student stared at us in the 'what-did-I-do-to-deserve-this' kind of way, and we laughed even more raucously. Poor girl. *sniggers* Saddest thing was that it was Science after that. I was sleeping in class, and the teacher wasn't too pleased with that. Actually, that's an understatement. My piano teacher (this is so tiring to type. Let's address her as Mrs Fursa instead) said something rather interesting about people who should reproduce (aka me) not wanting to, and people who shouldn't reproduce who do so in large numbers. Rather politically incorrect, but well... Think of a Russian lady who doesn't give a crap about Stalin/Lenin. Anyway, it makes us sound rather semi-human, doesn't it? I believe Ng spoke about this before, about how she rebelled and married a graphics artist instead of some scholar... But no, that does not make me wanna have kids. Full stop. Oh, and I realised that my MEP teacher looks somewhat like John Lennon when I saw this book on Lennon (duh). Maybe he's trying to model after Lennon, since he loves the Beatles. Maths sucked. There was a mistake in the test paper, and it freaked me out so much that I lost my mind. Probably flunked it, but who cares? Friday was so strange. Started off rather badly with that Youth Mission Team thingy coming back to the school (fortunately not for us), and me seeing this lady who's been bugging me ever since after the dumb retreat. I don't exactly like her because she's one of those kind of people who go 'You should join this because of blahblahblah'. How about 'You should just f*ck off and get out of my life because it goes against my values?' It got gradually better in English because I stumped the teacher. She was rather pissed during the lesson, so I approached her after class. It's on the novel we're doing (rip-off of TKAM: just change the thing here and there, and you get it). I asked her what she'll call the genre (you guys should be shouting 'bildungsroman'), and she said, I quote, 'tragedy/anything, really'. How interesting... When I asked her 'shouldn't it be bildungsroman?', I could see her intense temptation to 'HUH' at me. Some head of English person came to persuade us to join English Lit next year too. Obviously I'm going for it (since English here's CRAP), but I'm the only one in my circle of friends so far. One of them is seriously considering, but the rest are just uninterested. I think only 6 people in my class are taking E Lit next year so far... Let's not talk about the number of people taking MEP next year. This post will get too depressing that way. Hopefully this post is long enough to get in the way of your digestive system :). Here's a funny quote to end it off. 'I had a student who was a Mathematics professor in the Uni of Adelaide, and he couldn't even count to four!' -Mrs Fursa, when she was complaining about me being unable to count to four when playing my Beethoven Sonata. 4:07 PM Wednesday, August 16, 2006 Sars, my silence for about 2 weeks should have answered your question long ago... Anyway, I had another horrifying visit to the dentist where I had not 1, but TWO F*CKING INJECTIONS. And it was because the f*cking dentist didn't do the first one well enough. What the hell... So I dragged myself back to school with a terrible migraine, and being rather speech-impaired, as my whole entire upper lip was NUMB. And what more, I had a piano lesson. However, some miracle probably happened, and I played even better than I usually do. My prayers paid off!!! (I was praying the whole time I was at the clinic) Besides that, I've had terrible migraines for almost every day since last week, thus explaining the lack of life on this Oh, and we're having a Dutch guy joining our music class. Wonder if he's cute... KIDDING. He's supposed to have taken music before, so... It makes the grand total of those who take music this year round up to the nearest 10, aka 10. Did I mention that only about 3 people are continuing music next year? Blame it on our cranky old teacher... (cross between Beethoven and probably some mad scientist. His handwriting is ATROCIOUS. My handwriting looks immaculately neat next to his. Mingyi's would be godly) I'm gonna get ready for my funeral now. I've only practised the piano for about 10 mins in the morning for the past few days, and my lesson's on Friday. I'm screwed. 7:45 PM Saturday, August 05, 2006 I hate my brother and I hope he goes to hell, and burns and rots there. So exhausted. 8:09 PM
