I realised that I've been abandoning this blog in place of... Maplestory. Yes, I am rather bored, if you haven't noticed. Anyway, results were out on the night of the 22nd of Dec! Being the cowardly headless chicken I am, I didn't dare check it and got fausty to get a look first! Well, she seemed rather interested in knowing how I went, so why not? :) I thought the results would only have been out on the 23rd till a friend from Corpus (old school) called to tell me they were already out. Bah. I did surprisingly well, especially for applicable maths and chem (seeing I bitched about those 2 exams the most)! Oh, and lit too (seeing I DIDN'T STUDY). Despite the continuous comparisons between the calculus and applicable maths exams (in favour of the calc one, obviously), I got the same raw score for both. And I did better in applic and chem than calc and physics. Lol. Quite funny really. I ended up on 98.4 for applic, 95.3 for chem, 95.1 for calc (yes, not that great diff), 91.8 for physics (&^^%^%#$# TD lied. I got 89 for school, 93 for exam. Meaning that the bloody subject didn't get scaled up, as he said it would. Probably said that because I threatened to quit due to my abysmal marks at the start of the year) and 87.2 for lit (like wtf, 74 for school, 83 for exam, and scaled up close to 10%?! If I'd known, I would have put in more effort for lit and dumped physics!)! Which gave me a tertiary entrance rank of 99.90. The TER works that it ranks people in terms of percentile: meaning I came top 0.1% of the state. What confused me was that it doesn't really work out, seeing that not every TER had a person... Anyway, the top TER is 99.95, and it goes down every 0.05. This year, there were 16 people who got 99.95, and 15 who got 99.90! Aka I was really really happy! :) The cherry on the cake was what was published in the paper last sunday. I was rather disappointed when I looked at the results slip because it said I didn't win any awards except for the certificate of excellence (given to those who chalk up >10As in 2 years. Not a great deal really. Keisha got 13). Turns out that awards only get published in the paper! I got a general exhibition (top 40 in the state), and a certificate of distinction for applic maths too! The latter made me go wtfbbq, but I'm not complaining. I came 19th in the state (they rank the top 40 in the paper). Another girl from my school came 26th. Meaning that yes, I did top the school in the TEE, as the teachers predicted, and the f*cking admin didn't listen. My mum was rather pissed off, because the dux didn't even rank in the top 40 (she got a TER of 99.7, which is good, but honestly crap for the school dux). So my mum was thinking of dropping a snide comment in to the principal/dean, but I persuaded her not to (I was thinking of picking up a part-time job of tutoring in the school after all). Sad thing is that I didn't get a scholarship to UWA, though uni of melb will offer me one, seeing I passed their academic threshold. The govt of WA (perth) is giving me $3k if I stay though... In their rather feeble attempt to stem the brain drain. My parents wanted me to stay after finding out about the $3k though, beacuse it's more expensive to go to melb than stay. I also got an invite for a reception (well, I think afternoon tea/cocktail might be a more apt descripion) to UWA this friday to 'celebrate my outstanding achievement in the 2008 TEE'. My parents were invited too, and they were surprisingly enthusiastic about it. My dad even considered shutting the shop early to go. Was really surprised... Social events have never been my parents' forte. Another event they were invited to (well, obviously I was invited too) was the awards night. Again, they were really enthusiastic about it (more than I was, I think. I loathe these nights... Sitting there, wondering when they'll finish reading out all the names so I can go gobble down all their refreshments :)). At least Keisha's going for this too (she didn't get an invite to tea), so I won't be so bored! She said her parents were rather enthusiastic about it too, despite them rather loathing these events too. Strange how parents are. Anyway, I'm missing everyone who's currently in school now :(. There's no one for me to chat to on msn! How boring. I shall go for lunch then, and come back later tonight when you're all back from school! :) 11:50 AM
