It's close to the end of the year! By close, I'm talking about 2 hrs and 11 minutes.

The brother just left for some fireworks display. I'm strangely ambivalent... Both envious and apathetic, because I'm too exhausted to go anywhere at all, though it would be nice counting down with friends instead of being stuck at home. A very nice change indeed...

I'm not even going to bother with New Year resolutions until it's really the new year. And the chances are that I will never keep those resolutions anyway.

Well, for a change, I thought I'd look back on this pretty uneventful year.

Changing schools: great improvement to the crappy one I had to go to. At least this one is way more challenging, albeit the school fees are astronomical compared to every other school I've been to too (by astronomical, we're talking about $12000+, excluding all the miscellaneous crap).

School was also surprisingly successful for me this year, with the pièce de résistance being the chem prize, and overall results and the strange little prizes that I've been getting as a result of flukes (eg: that maths thingum. The certificate is stuck somewhere in my school bag, crumpled and pathetic, after I forgot to put it in a file and shook a huge spider out of my bag...).

My new friends (Keisha and Victoria) are really nice too. Both very artsy... I think if they saw the stuff I used to draw in Nanyang, they'd get a cardiac arrest... And they're very helpful, and tolerate (to a certain extent) my moaning and groaning about my horrible tests that I think I failed but still miraculously did well in.

And Gaby! Whom I met after Inna was too sick to continue teaching me... :( She listened to my moaning too, though not without mocking me. Humph. In a nice way, of course. She's such a good teacher too.

And of course, Maisy, who has been a constant furball of joy and happiness for me. She is so cute, as you guys know. I have no idea how I could have survived this crazy year (of mostly studying) without her, especially every night when I would study till past midnight with her sleeping on my bed.

Oh, I just discovered that Maisy loves vanilla ice cream (those on a cone that you can get at supermarkets). Gave her some yesterday because it was so warm, and she absolutely adored it. :) I really should stop giving her such stuff because it's making her too fat. :(

And also, you guys, who've all been so good to me in various ways, especially talking to me on msn when I'm down (which is nearly every day) or helping me with my homework. Thanks for your shifty and nifty diagrams drawn on microsoft paint when explaining the really obscure geometry questions on my assignments. They were really hilarious, though very helpful.

And I should thank my school teachers too, who have been constant sources of entertainment. It's so funny when they think I'm almost fit to be beatified because I act so *innocent* and *polite* around them. Fine, stop barfing all over your keyboards. It's not my fault that the teachers choose to be blind to the stuff I do.

2007... Despite seemingly being uneventful, has indeed been another interesting year, especially for school. I really hope that 2008 will be even more interesting, though I'm sure it'll be full of studying as it's my last year of high school. No more mindless drifting from 1 year of school to another :(.

It's strange that I'm almost sad that my academic rat race is drawing to an end. All those years I wished that I would be done with all this competitive studying... I mean, I don't have a goal for what I want to do after school, which makes it way harder due to the pressures from the family and the school as to what I want to become (partly due to my 'excellent' grades).

Perhaps, after experiencing life in the lower echelons of society, I might after all, choose the stereotypical path of guaranteed prosperity, fortune (and depression) for the rest of my life in either medicine or law. Working sure does give you a different perspective. It makes you want to kill the entire world and yourself if you don't become part of the elite (to me at least).

Oh well. That's just the elitist side of me.

Anyway, a very happy new year to one and all. I am exhausted after having worked from about 9 to 5 today. Got my pay though. So I might go shopping for books soon :).

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Hope 2008 will be even better than 2007! :)

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Albeit it doesn't feel that merry to me...

Xmas has lost that magical touch, when our family (including my aunt and gran and cousins) would stand around the fire of the barbecue pit, and laugh and play through the night. Instead, it's just been church at 9 in the morning, lunch (crabs), the family sleeping while I was gaming, msning, dinner and tv. Pretty meaningless...

And the meaning of xmas is lost when everywhere you go, it's all about buying and 50% off certain popular xmas gifts. This is what happens when things get commercialised.

I shall stop being a wet blanket and just go watch tv. Merry xmas once again!

It's been a long time since I've blogged! Sorry for the neglect, dear blog... *swipes at cobwebs*

It's all because of working... Worked the whole day today at my parents' shop. Not that I get much 'special treatment'. Because I get paid the same as their employee, I get treated the same. Bah.

My legs are aching like hell!

Anyway, school reports came on monday. They were surprisingly good, although the evil dwarf 'borderline' b*tched about me using euphemisms. Like how my 'semester 2 results were inconsistent, but her exam results demonstrated her excellent understanding.' Fyi, my sem 2 results were extremely consistent: consistently 10% lower than sem 1's due to my lack of effort. I only decided to carry on with hist after my horrid piano results came, which was just before the hist exam.

I'll tell you guys more tmr! Am too tired...

Just finished the dishes at yes, 11.25. Dad decided/forget/rebelled against doing them today. He's already snoring off to dreamland/nightmareland.

And Jolene regrets to inform you that she has officially entered the kingdom of ahsohdom. She was admiring at the way light bounces off a clean plate and the beauty of a clean, shiny piece of cutlery. If those aren't symptoms of the entrance of ahsohdom, I don't know what is.

The brother's birthday's in 2 days! And I have absolutely no idea what to get him. Anyone has any suggestions? I'm not spending anything beyond $20 ($10 if I can), and the cheaper and more impressive the better. Sera suggested ties but I don't think he likes them (probably makes him feel like the dog he is). Didn't get to go shopping on Sunday because I got up late.

SO I'M SCREWED.

Bah. Maisy just bolted out of my room because there's no one in there except for the terribly unfriendly ghost. And thus, I have to go.

I've just been talking about maisy to Jia, and it strikes me how much she's changed my life.

a) I now almost never get to eat any meat: it all gets donated to her. No slices of ham on hawaiian pizza, about half my steak at dinner, even Macdonald nuggets (without the oily crust). The only time she doesn't get any is if there's chilli/onions/peas/corn. Gah.
b) She follows me nearly everywhere. Meaning half the journey to school (we drop her off at the parents' shop), back home, and around the house. And she's so cute... When we drop by occassionally for Macdonalds (yeah, when we're aching to have more grease and transfats in our bodies), she sits patiently in the car till whoever goes in to buy the food comes out. Then the manic tail-wagging starts, and she sniffs and sniffs at the food. Bah. Everyone loves the 'evil' golden arches.
c) I never get to use the bottom right-hand corner of my bed because that's where she sleeps half the time. The other half of the time she sleeps in my mum's room.
d) How I never go out without rushing home because she's lonely. Even when some other member of the family is at home.
e) The amount of time I spend at the pet department of any supermarket I go to. I imagine her little doggy face lighting up with joy (fine, exaggeration) at which ever treat I buy her. I could just spend hours looking at the rows and rows of treats and toys...

Gah. There's a whole long list and I doubt you'll be interested anyway.

On another note... Thankfully reports didn't come today. Mum was home for half the day. So I'm guessing they'll be here on Mon. Bah. I'm crossing my fingers about the teachers' comments. In fact, I'm crossing just about everything including toes, feet, elbows and will probably be cross-eyed after reading the comments.

And if my mum stays at home more than half a day per day for the rest of the hols, I think I'll be in an asylum at the end of the hols. She's driving me nuts... She reckons my memory's about as sound as a 1000-year old granny. She sets ALARMS for when to take the laundry in. Gee.

And on a separate note, I think I'm going mad. I've been adding current schoolmates who would probably think it's raining asteroids that a 'stereotypical nerdy asian' like me would actually have facebook! Oh well. I can't do anything about it now, so heck.

I find myself in strange anticipation for school reports to arrive.

Unlike in Singapore where reports are hand-delivered by the teacher to the student via report books requiring signatures, school reports arrive in the mail here. They do NOT require signatures... *cough*

Since my parents leave their mail so susceptible to interception, it's not my fault. I'm highly dubious that they want to read the teachers' comments on what a socially-inept person I am, or questioning my continuous absence in class due to music lessons.

I hope it doesn't come tomorrow... Mum's at home for majority of the day. She isn't that blind (unfortunately) to miss me tiptoeing my way to my room with a huge white envelope. And she always questions the mail I get, so... What more, this one's addressed to HER.

Bah.

Anyway, now that the hols are here, I actually find myself suffering from chronic boredom! Perhaps the juxtaposition of busy exam studying, furious scribbling of scripts and lazing around watching videos on youtube brings on this kind of feeling.

Went for a job 'interview' last night at the nearby asian restaurant which wanted people proficient in both english and mandarin. It was not quite an 'interview' but 3 rapidly fired questions, first being whether I spoke english, second whether I spoke mandarin, and lastly what my name and contacts were. The prospective employer was incredibly rude, though I'm not complaining about the pay, which is higher than the average fast food restaurant. About $8/hr seems reasonable, don't you think so? Oh, and I get free food too :).

I'M BORED!!!

A week into facebook and I officially declare it boring. And annoying. Hear me out before you start vandalizing my wall.

It gets irritating when people you've been avoiding for the past year suddenly find you on said website, and start adding you. Firstly, just because they don't have friends doesn't mean I'll be their friend. Secondly, perhaps I just don't want to have anything to do with them, even if it means the aliens will abduct me and throw me into Galazy Cosmo 873746, which is 900000 light years away. Lastly, they're just assh*les.

Ironically, I could be the elitist, anti-social person that I always am, but let's just not take that into account. It's about as comfortable having a conversation with them as crashing through the window of a spacecraft and into an airborne porcupine (don't ask me how it got there). Well, all of said people are from the previous school I went to, all of whom I suspect have coconuts in place of their heads.

Anyway, I got my music (piano) report today! Gaby gave me a surprisingly glowing report. I expected her to say 'shocking things' as she jokingly said on our last lesson, when I told her that my parents would NEVER see my school reports. I got an A overall, and a few A+, which was quite nice of her! And she wrote nice things about me. I anticipated something like 'should curl up in a corner and die', but thankfully Gaby's nice :).

Now I'll just have to get worried about the academic reports. Hopefully none of them wrote nasty things about me, though I expect all of them to ask for more participation in class, or to ask for me to stop mocking other people who actually TRY.

And I don't know about the Gershwin thing. If Gaby's not going to ask me to do that Concerto thingum next year, I'm not going to go reminding her. And I'm probably not doing music as a subject next year because of my excellent hist marks that seem to be magnetically attracted to me, despite the amount (or lack thereof) of study I do. In comparison to other subjects which I work my arse off for (hey, I actually do!), hist marks come too easily for me to give up. Although Australian history doesn't enthrall me too greatly.

Anyway, I'm off. Gonna read more of that book I got for my chem prize. It is actually quite interesting! One of the guys (Ernst Boris Chain I think) was an ardent pianist, and he debated whether to become a concert pianist or scientist. Had he been a pianist, I think we'd all still be dying from 'simple' bacterial infections. Talk about twists of fate heh?

IT'S THE HOLIDAYS!

Last day of school was on Friday! Though it was a really long day because of speech/awards night. I got the chem prize! My prize was a book called 'The Mold in Dr. Florey's Coat: The Penicillin Miracle', which is actually quite interesting! It was at the top of a pile, and I was pointing and laughing at it when I first saw it.

So yes... My results were surprisingly good! Though I only know 4 of my final marks. Got 78 for Hist, 82 for Phy, 90 for intro calc and 95 for chem. Not sure about lit and geom and trig, though I'll probably get As for them too :). Woohoo! Straight As :D.

Maisy's so bored. And she's growing too fat because we're feeding her too much. Bah... My friends always tell me to stop feeding her, but she's too cute!

And I can't find a job I like :(. The bakery at the shopping centre across the road is looking for casual sales staff, but being the anti-social elitist person I am, I don't want to work there. I might try getting an administrative job, though I doubt anyone would want an inexperienced, temporary (2 months) staff. Bah.

I'm strangely tired. Maybe it's maisy's influence. She does nothing but eat and sleep.

Ohoh, I've finished my xmas cards! Yes, it is a bit early, but my dad's on the plane to Singapore right now and in a bid to save money on postage, I got him to post them out for me :). He's gone back to renew his passport. Considering how I'll save about $1 per card on postage, why not? :D

So yes, you guys will be getting your xmas cards some time this week/next week, which is really, really early. Better early than late anyway *glares at Zeena Tan*.

And to all you little wordy people, if you're bored and want to help end world poverty (a bit of a hyperbole), go to www.freerice.com and play the game! :)
