It has been one hell of a weekend. I was happily eating my breakfast (at noon) after doing my share of the chores when Beverly called me up. Wondering how they would have time to go for movies at such a crucial time in the year (mocks in a month, TEE/main exams in 2), I picked up the phone. To hear her crying, and saying that 3 of our friends had died in a car crash. My ham and cheese sandwich forgotten, I concentrated on deciphering her words. 5 people in the car. 3 dead, 2 in hospital. Brayden, James and Rosy dead. Adam fighting for life in hospital, possibly lost a leg. Foreign exchange student from Spain also in hospital. Would you like to come down to Corpus? I got worried... Firstly, I'd left the school about a year and a half ago. Secondly, no transport. Tim's mum was really nice though. She offered to pick me up, despite having a full schedule of having to go for a confirmation mass, sending kids to the footy carnival etc. Went down to Corpus. Surprisingly enough, people still remembered me. Peers, teachers, parents... It was just depressing. I'd just been talking to James on Facebook the other day and now he's gone. I don't quite believe it yet... Some things are just so surreal. I wouldn't pretend and say I was best friends with them. Indeed, it was far from that. I used to get so annoyed at Brayden for locking my locker out and so on. But I remember the times we used to muck around together during lunch, where Brayden started singing the national anthem every time our principal walked by, or the mocking of teachers... Pleh. Memento mori... Such things just make others look so trivial. I have not done the revision I planned to start this weekend, but who cares. RIP Brayden, James and Rosy. Get well soon to Adam. I hope he doesn't take his loss too badly (Rosy was his girlfriend). Unfortunate things happen. 5:21 PM
