With regards to the music vs history thing, it's probably going to be music. I doubt there is a shred of hope that history will somehow get better than the maths and sciences, so screw that. If I'm taking something, I might as well take something I actually ENJOY. I emailed the evil dwarf today regarding above subject, thinking that he would not read his emails till late in the day. I emailed during recess, we had history before lunch. Sadly, he read it before the lesson, and so hauled me out at the end of the lesson to talk about it. Strangely enough, he actually remembers that my mum didn't want me to take history! So he was going on about how I'm actually doing well and will probably get 80+ if I take hist next year. And that he noticed my writing's deproved. HAHA. Well, due to the fact that I really couldn't be bothered this term/semester. Other subjects take precedence. It wasn't that bad. At least he wasn't horrible or anything. I guess he knew I'd more or less made up my mind. HAHA. Back to music. I've chosen 2 of my new pieces! One is the 1st Beethoven Sonata, Op. 2. Which runs for about 15 pages O.o. The whole thing, not just one woosy little movement. And the last movement is prestissimo, which freaked me out, though Gaby reassured me, saying it was within my technical reach. The 2nd piece is a Chopin Etude, Op. 25 No. 12. I was offered either the Revolutionary (Op. 10 No. 12) or this one. I thought the Revolutionary was a bit overrated, so I chose this one. And also because I prefer this one :). And I'm probably playing a Bach concerto (for our school's annual concerto night thingum: will elaborate later), or RHAPSODY IN BLUE. Gaby was asking me if I was game for the latter, and I'm like 'yeah, sure. At least I'll recognise a Gershwin the next time I have an aural test'. Bah. Apparently she decided to organise this 'composer of the month' thing next year due to absymal aural students like me. She will play a few minutes of that composer's stuff at the end of a lesson so that students will actually recognise it. HAHA. Anyway, I need to decide on my Baroque and Modern piece! Gaby played quite a bit of Shostakovich for me, but I've never liked Shostakovich. I felt quite bad making her play piece after piece for me. Though it was nice listening to her play :). Oh, I got my blue marks thingum from the music festival. Got 85/100, which is actually quite good! Considering the amount of tests and assignments that had totally burnt out my brain. And the adjudicator basically said the same things Gaby said. HAHA. And I'm doing a Beethoven 2-hand with one of her other students, who had her exam on the same day and we're now friends :). She's a year younger, though we're in the same school/house. And I didn't get a choice as to whether I played the top or bottom part :(. No fair. So I missed a whole lesson of chem (actually, a whole hour's more accurate) because I was photocopying music (the beethoven was a monster to photocopy) and talking to Gaby/choosing pieces. Gaby was asking if I needed an orange slip (which just says I was at music, and signed by the music teacher), and I was like nah, they're just going through the test. Oh, I told her that I expected to fail the chem test due to the music fest the day before, which left me with absolutely no time to study. So she was like 'oh, so what did you get?' And I was like 'um... 45.5?' And she was like 'out of...?' And, sheepishly, I said '46'. And she was like 'yeah, you failed. Can you see the cry wolf element in that? No one's going to believe you when you say you're going to fail and get what, 98%?' And I was like 'um, actually, it was 99%'. HAHAHAHA. News travels too quickly in the school. I've had random people just coming up and screaming in my face 'YOU GOT 45.5/46 FOR THE CHEM TEST?! OMFG, YOU FREAK!', which is really quite terrifying, especially when you're balancing a pile of textbooks on the stairs. Well, considering how nearly half the cohort failed the test, I can't blame them for wanting to make me fall over and crack my skull on the landing of the stairs. I would do the same, if it were someone else. Anyway, my total mark for the year (excluding the exam, which is worth 47%. O.o) for chem is 49/53. Thus, I only need to get 2% in my exam to pass the year's course. HAHA. I'm guaranteed another 5 marks though, which comes from homework. So technically, I've passed chem :). And something more freaky than random people yelling in my face is that my chem teacher likes me. Or rather, I think she does. Firstly, she doesn't tell me off when I get there an hour late due to music. Which I told Gaby, to which she replied 'well, I'm sure your chem teacher would be wondering what she's doing up there if you don't turn up for half her lessons and still get 99%'. Secondly, she's been asking me all sorts of things, like what I wanna be, what subs I take etc. Thirdly, when she told me I needed just 1 more mark to pass, I told her that it's the same for hist, of which I'm guaranteed an A, and she went 'oh, I'm sure you're guaranteed more than an A'. Considering she thinks our cohort is, I quote, 'terribly unfocused and HOPELESS', it's quite frightening. She was saying today how the 'general consensus among the teachers is that the year 11s (aka us) are hopeless'. What an encouraging lady she is. Anyway, on a darker note, I'VE LOST MY GRADE 8 PIANO BOOK :(. It's supposed to be with everything else, but I can't find it! Thank God my exam's over though. However, if I fail, I'll need it next year, and then I'm screwed! :( I've been trying to find it at home/in school, but to no avail. Boo :(. I remembered taking it home with my dinosaur of a metronome, which is sitting happily on top of my piano along with my sight-reading, scales and miscellaneous stuff, and a random Debussy preludes book. And a whole stack of music. So everything is there, except that book :(. I hope I didn't lose it in school. If I did, I'm screwed. And I'm screwed if I don't go study. I probably won't be on till in about 1 and a half weeks, when my exams end (on the 21st of Nov). They start next week. I'm going to fail! Or, as Gaby mocked me, 'you'll only fail if your pass is 95%'. She's been mocking me about the 'failure' of a chem test since I told her. Which was just yesterday. Humph. Though I admit it's quite funny, especially when she was telling my friend about it, and randomly surveying people as to whether they'd believe someone who says they're going to fail, but gets 99% in their test. Most of them (actually all of them), regrettably, said no. Humph. 8:33 PM
