Here are the excerpts. For more info, read the post before this one. 'He(Pete Bancini) had come to life for maybe a minute to try to tell us something, something none of us cared to listen to or tried to understand, and the effort had drained him dry. That shot in his hip was as wasted as if she'd squirted it in a dead man - no heart to pump it, no vein to carry it up to his head, no brain up there for it to mortify with its poison. She'd just as well shot it in a dried-out old cadaver. [...] Pete never tried anything like that again, and he never will. Now, when he starts acting up during a meeting and they try to hush him, he always hushes. He'll still get up from time to time to wag his head and let us know how tired he is, but it's not a complaint or excuse or warning anymore - he's finished with that; it's like an old clock that wont tell time but won't stop neither, with the hands bent out of shape and the face bare of numbers and the alarm bell rusted silent, an old, worthless clock that keeps ticking and cuckooing without meaning nothing.' 2nd excerpt. ''This world... belongs to the strong, my friend! The ritual of our existence is based on the strong getting stronger by devouring the weak. We must face up to this. no more than right that it should be this way. We must learn to accept it as a law of the natural world. The rabbits accept their role in the ritual and recognize the wolf as the stong. In defence, the rabbit becomes sly and frightened and elusive as he digs holes and hides when the wolf is about. And he endures, he goes on. He knows his place. He most certainly doesn't challenge the wolf to combat. Now, would that be wise? Would it?' That's all for the excerpts. Isn't it just so sad? I mean, you all probably don't get the context since you guys haven't read the book, but if you get to, do get it. It's definitely worth your time and dime. And somehow, I just wished I'd read this book earlier, because it's really great, and because I should have known before challenging the 'wolf'. I just see such a relation between Mrs Ng and Nurse Ratched, the person the metaphor of the wolf is refering too. Not that I am this white innocent rabbit that twitches its nose and bob, cottony tail all the time, but well... The school uniform is white... I am just feeling really sad, that the world has to come to such a state that oppression reigns, and people are forced to do things against their wills, against their principles and morals. Sigh... Yanne, I hope you liked the excerpts, since I think it'd fit what you've been telling me over MSN. This world is so cruel and full of hate, it just chides me out. 6:13 PM
